Wisdom teeth removal: the details

Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to come in, way in the back. Many mouths don't have room for them. They can come in sideways, get stuck under the gums, or push on the teeth next to them. That can cause pain, swelling, and cavities that are hard to clean.

A wisdom tooth growing in at an angle is found on an X-ray, gently removed, and the spot heals. 1. Find the problem2. Gently remove it3. Heal up

How it's done

First, we take an X-ray to see where your wisdom teeth are and how they are growing. Then we numb the area. During the procedure, you will feel pushing, but you should not feel pain. When we're done, we place gauze to help stop the bleeding.

After your visit

  • Bite on the gauze and change it as we show you.
  • Use a cold pack on your cheek to help with swelling.
  • Eat soft foods for a few days.
  • Don't use a straw, and don't smoke. They can loosen the clot that helps you heal.
  • Call us if the pain gets worse after a few days, or if you have a fever.

I've been going to Dr. Chris for the majority of my life. My family and I have built a great rapport with him and he's amazing at taking care of our teeth! I called yesterday because I have wisdom teeth coming in and bothering me, and he was able to fit me in today and we were able to make a plan to get this taken care of. Won't ever go to a different dentist!
